Who these terms are between

They are between you, as someone reading this site, and the business that operates it under the name Heirs Legacy.

The registered legal entity is not confirmed yet, so it is not named here. When it is registered, its name and registered address will appear on this page and in the footer of every page. Nothing about that gap changes what these terms say or who they bind.

By using the site you accept these terms. If you do not accept them, the remedy is simple: stop using the site. Nothing here obliges you to agree to anything in order to read a page.

What this site is

It is general information about what Pennsylvania requires after someone dies, plus a description of four things we do. That is the whole of it.

It is not legal advice, tax advice or financial advice, and it is not a substitute for any of them. We are not a law firm. Reading this site, using one of the tools on it, or sending us a message does not create an attorney and client relationship, and nothing you send us through this site is privileged or confidential in the way a communication with your own attorney would be.

Estates turn on their own facts. Two families in the same county with the same size of estate can face completely different answers because of who inherits, what the will says, or how an account was titled. General information cannot account for that, and we would rather say so on the page than at the bottom of it. The fuller version of this is on our disclaimer page, which is worth reading before you rely on anything here.

Using the site

You are welcome to:

• read anything here, as many times as you like
• print a page, save it, or send it to a family member, an attorney or an accountant
• quote a section, provided you say where it came from

Please do not:

• copy the site wholesale, or republish its text as though it were your own
• use automated tools to scrape it in a way that interferes with the site working for other people
• use the contact form to send anything abusive, fraudulent or unlawful, or to send bulk or automated messages
• attempt to break, probe or interfere with the site or the systems behind it

Accuracy, and why figures move

We check what we publish and we date it. Every page that states a statutory figure, a threshold or a county fee carries a line saying when it was last checked and against what source, and those lines link straight to the primary source so you can see it for yourself.

Even so, these figures change. Rates, thresholds and interest rates are set by the Commonwealth and are amended when the legislature amends them, sometimes mid year. A page checked in July can be out of date in November through nobody making a mistake. County offices also change their fees, their forms and their filing requirements on their own schedule.

So: use this site to understand the shape of what is required, and confirm the exact figure against the primary source or with a professional before you rely on it for a filing or a payment. We do not warrant that everything here is complete, current or error free, and we correct mistakes when we find them or when somebody tells us about one.

Tools on this site

Some pages have small interactive tools, such as the one that shows an inheritance tax rate for a given relationship. They apply published rules to what you enter. They do not know anything about your estate, they do not see anything you type, and their output is an illustration rather than a calculation you should file or pay against.

Links to other sites

We link out to the Pennsylvania Department of Revenue, the Pennsylvania Treasury, county Register of Wills offices and other official sources, because sending you to the primary source is more useful than asking you to take our word for it.

We do not control those sites. We are not responsible for their content, their availability, their accuracy or how they handle your information, and a link is not an endorsement of anything beyond the page we linked to. When you follow a link away from here, the other site’s terms and privacy policy apply, not ours.

What belongs to whom

The text, design, illustrations and code of this site belong to us, except where they are quoted from a public source. Statutes, court rules and government forms are public and we claim nothing over them. Names and marks belonging to other organisations belong to those organisations.

Messages you send us

If you send us a message we will use it to answer your enquiry, on the terms set out in our privacy policy. Please do not send documents, account numbers or anything confidential through the form. If we need those, we will tell you how to send them securely.

Limits on our liability

This site is provided as it is. To the fullest extent the law allows, we are not liable for any loss or damage arising from using it or from relying on anything in it, including a decision you take, a deadline you miss, or a filing you make or do not make on the strength of something you read here.

Some liability cannot lawfully be excluded, and we do not attempt to exclude it. Nothing in these terms limits our liability for fraud or fraudulent misrepresentation, for death or personal injury caused by negligence, or for anything else that the law of Pennsylvania does not permit a business to limit. If a court decides a limit here goes further than the law allows, that limit is reduced to what the law allows and the rest of these terms stay in force.

Work we actually do for you is a separate matter. It is governed by the written agreement for that work, not by this page, and where the two differ that agreement wins.

If part of these terms fails

If any part of these terms turns out to be unenforceable, the rest still stands. If we do not enforce something straight away, that does not mean we have given it up.

Changes

We may update these terms. The date at the top of the page shows when they last changed, and the version on the site at the time you use it is the one that applies.

Governing law

These terms are governed by the law of the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania, and any dispute about them or about this site belongs in the state or federal courts sitting in Pennsylvania. If you are reading this from another state or another country, you are welcome here, but the law that applies is still Pennsylvania law.
